Who doesn't love a nice relaxing facial? For decades, facial treatments have been growing in popularity with good reason. Any esthetician will tell you that a professional facial treatment is one of the best ways to effectively treat and pamper the skin, using a comprehensive series of steps.
What most facialists probably won't tell you is that you can easily replicate these steps at home for nearly identical results at a fraction of the cost. For those times when you just can't make it in for an appointment, here are our top tips for getting those facial vibes (and results) at home. Your skin won't know the difference.
FIVE TIPS TO CREATE A PERFECT AT-HOME FACIAL
1.) Set the mood
Part of the fun of getting a facial is getting a chance to relax. But just because you're not at the spa, doesn't mean you should skimp on this part. We recommend setting aside a little time to perform your ritual and setting the tone beforehand. Light your favorite candle. Put on your favorite music to chill to, or maybe even incorporate another self care ritual such as meditating or taking a bath beforehand. The more at rest you are, the more the body has a chance to facilitate healing and repair for your skin. So, you owe it to yourself to truly relax!
2.) Invest in one good tool or gadget
While this step isn't mandatory, it is our favorite tip for really re-creating professional results. At The Glowtocol we are obsessed with facial gadgets. We retail only tools which are professional-grade and on par with real treatment room modalities. For the cost of one visit to the esthetician, these at-home tools can be used as often as daily to mimic that post-facial glow OR maintain results between professional visits.
3.) Don't forget the facial massage
If you don't have a facial tool at home, don't sweat it. You have a couple of fantastic and free tools, already at your disposal - your hands. Facial massage is wonderful for rejuvenating the skin and facilitating some natural detoxification. 4.) Follow the instructions carefully
When using professional products or even over-the-counter items such as exfoliants or masks, it is very important to always read the directions on the package. Follow the advice of your esthetician (if you are working with one) and do not exceed the suggested times for leaving a product on.
While it can be normal for a product to feel tingly or "active" we never want to leave anything on the skin that burns or feels unpleasant. Always remove a product right away if you are having an uncomfortable reaction.
An at-home facial should follow the same basic steps in this order:
Step One - First Cleanse
Step Two - Second Cleanse (optional)
Step Three - Exfoliation (skip this step if you are overly-sensitive to exfoliation)
Step Four - Microcurrent and/or LED tools (optional)
Step Five - Facial massage with oil and/or serums
Step Six - Facial massage with gemstone tools or rollers (optional)
Step Seven - Masking
Step Eight - Application of moisturizer and any other finishing products
5.) Make it a regular ritual
The key to getting results from any facial - be it in the treatment room or at home - is consistency. Performing your at-home facial at least once per month is a great goal. Or shoot for once per week or every other week, for best results.
Remembering that your skin didn't reach its present condition overnight, know that similarly, it may take multiple treatments to notice permanent results. Keep showing up. Your skin will thank you for committing to it regularly.
