It's that time again, to ring out with the old and ring in with the New Year. Here at the Glowtocol, we love New Year's as a time to evaluate our skincare practices and make any needed changes.
Whether you need to mix it up or just jumpstart your best practices, the start of a new year provides you with a fresh opportunity to recommit to self care and we are here for it! To celebrate this New Year's, we've compiled our tried and true tricks for getting your skincare on track, as well as our favorite 2021 trends to try.
TIPS FOR SKINCARE IN THE NEW YEAR
1.) Clean Up Your Routine
When looking at your skincare for a new year, a great place to start is by pulling all of your current products out and doing a quick evaluation. Toss anything that's expired or that you know you won't be using again.
This is also a good time to commit to choosing products with cleaner ingredients for your skin. This post has a full breakdown of how to go through your existing skincare and make the necessary edits.
2.) Less is More
Minimalist skincare is becoming a trending topic in the beauty world. With so many advancements in technology, new products that multi-task continue to hit the market. This means it is becoming easier and easier to target our skin concerns with just a few wise investments.
Incorporating fewer steps is a great way to keep things simple, so that you always have time and are able to be consistent with your skincare. If you're feeling inspired to pare it down this year, check out this page for our Minimalist Glowtocol as well as this post on How To Be a Skincare Minimalist.
3.) Commit to your ABCs
If you're feeling overwhelmed by all the options out there, a good rule of thumb we are loving this year is to focus on your ABCs, as in: Vitamin A, Vitamin B and Vitamin C.
Vitamin A should be used nightly in the form of retinol or a retinol alternative, as it helps with cellular turnover and rejuvenation. Vitamin B (commonly listed as B-5) can be used day or night to help calm and repair the skin. Vitamin C is an immune booster for the skin, helping to brighten the skin and boost collagen synthesis.
Using these three powerhouse ingredients regularly ensures that we are addressing the skin from a holistic perspective and will help treat most skin concerns while also keeping the skin glowing.
4.) The Eyes Have It
As mask mandates continue to be a part of every day reality, expect to see an emphasis on skincare, makeup and other beauty treatments for the eye area. There are definitely benefits to pampering the skin around your eyes, as it tends to be a delicate area that doesn't produce a lot of natural protective moisture.
If you are looking to uplevel your routine with something new this year, eye creams and treatments could be your perfect new addition. You could also consider a roller tool, which works wonders to massage away excess puffiness and relieve tired eyes. Check out this post for even more ideas on how to address the eyes and target related concerns.
5.) Schedule Regular Self Care Dates
If you consistently schedule time on the calendar to meal prep or hit your yoga mat but don't schedule your skincare, consider prioritizing it just like the rest of your self care. This post has all of our best pointers on starting for sticking to a skincare routine.
That said, if you struggle generally with practicing self care, consider this a friendly reminder that there is no wrong way to care for yourself. The most important thing is finding rituals that recharge you and help you feel like your best self. And then making sure you make time for them! Whether you want to read more books, take more hikes, drink more water or remember to use toner in 2021, The Glowtocol is cheering you on. Happy New Year!
